John C. Staser

John C. Staser is a Member of TroyGould’s Litigation Department. Mr. Staser has more than a decade of experience as an effective litigator representing clients in both the prosecution and defense of a broad array of matters. While his practice is focused primarily upon general business litigation complex commercial disputes, Mr. Staser is highly versatile and skilled attorney who has represented clients in connection with claims involving everything from breach of contract, unfair competition, tortious interference, and securities fraud, to breach of fiduciary duty, self-dealing, undue influence, financial elder abuse, wrongful death, and misuse of likeness in the context of will and trust contests and related probate proceedings. Mr. Staser also has extensive experience handling a wide range of entertainment-related and real property disputes.

He has represented clients in a variety of different forums, including federal, state, and probate courts, arbitration and judicial reference proceedings, and administrative, disciplinary, and other hearings before regulatory agencies at all levels of government. And his clients include large national corporations and small family-owned businesses, corporate officers, directors, and shareholders, high-net-worth individuals and nonprofit organizations, professional and private fiduciaries, beneficiaries, public figures, and celebrities.

It is Mr. Staser’s proficiency across a broad range of subject matter and natural ability to connect with others on a personal level set his practice apart. Known for a results-oriented approach and developing practical strategies tailored to each client's individual objectives, he works closely with his clients to develop efficient, business-oriented solutions, and he prides himself on developing lasting and meaningful relationships with his clients.

Mr. Staser also holds a broad view of what it means to be an effective litigator, acting as a resource and tireless advocate for his clients long before litigation has been commenced. He regularly provides pre-dispute advice and counseling to his clients in order to minimize their exposure to potential liability through consultation, contract negotiation, implementation, and compliance, and pre-litigation counseling. And when a litigation does arise, Mr. Staser aggressively represents the interests of his clients throughout all stages of litigation, including discovery, trial, enforcement of judgment, and appeal.

Having represented clients in acrimonious and emotionally charged litigation among family members involving estates with assets in excess of $150 million, Mr. Staser has gained invaluable experience, powerful insights, and a unique perspective that informs his approach to litigation. He understands and appreciates the profound impact that other factors can have on the decision-making and litigation strategy of a party that does not operate solely on the basis of financial or economic considerations, variables which are often ignored or overlooked by other practitioners.

Mr. Staser is also the proud son of small business owners—his parents operate a fly-fishing shop established by his grandfather in 1961 in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was born and raised—and an avid outdoorsman with a passion for adventure, international travel and, above all else, exceptional food.

Ultimately, Mr. Staser attributes his ability to develop creative solutions to seemingly intractable problems and to consistently achieve favorable outcomes on behalf of his clients—particularly in matters involving the most complex and sensitive of issues—to his diverse professional experience, unique personal background, and the distinct lens through which he evaluates legal disputes and issues.
