Dale Short Quoted in LABJ

A recent Los Angeles Business Journal article on expert witnesses included quotes by Dale Short, chairman of the firm's Corporate Department.

The October 1, 2007 article, titled "Attorneys Joining the Ranks in Field of Expert Witnesses," reported that some of Los Angeles' most prominent attorneys are supplementing their regular practices with work as expert witnesses. The article noted that top-notch lawyers bring unique knowledge of the most current customs and practices in a particular industry with the result that expert testimony has become an integral part of major criminal and civil cases. "Because we are still out there, still practicing, we are more attractive than professional experts," Short noted.

The article stated that because the firm wrote the desk reference "Advising and Defending Corporate Directors and Officers," Bill Gould and Dale Short are routinely called to be expert witnesses in cases in which the fiduciary duty of corporate directors is at issue. "It is one of the few books on that topic out there, so we often get calls from attorneys who have referenced the book and want us to serve as expert witnesses," Short said.
